About

The museum is devoted to bringing perspective back to the Germanic culture of the early 20th century, making its work available for both scholarly and aesthetic inquiry. It actively researches provenance histories of its holdings using guidelines established by the American Association of Museums regarding unlawful appropriation.

Founded in 2001 by art dealer Serge Sabarsky and philanthropist Ronald S. Lauder, it operates within a historic building that is currently closed for multi-phased construction until Autumn 2026. The institution features galleries, a design shop, a bookstore, and Café Sabarsky, offering tours and educational programs to the public.
