The Frick Collection

The Frick operates as a premier museum dedicated to preserving and presenting distinguished historical art within its historic architectural setting, while serving as a vital civic resource through free access to its world-class research library and educational programs for scholars and the public.

The Frick Collection is an internationally recognized museum and research center located in one of New York City’s last great Gilded Age mansions at 1 East 70th Street. Founded by industrialist Henry Clay Frick, who bequeathed his home and art to the public, the institution houses masterworks from the Renaissance to the late nineteenth century, including Old Master paintings, European sculpture, and decorative arts. The collection has more than doubled in size since the museum opened in 1935 and is complemented by the Frick Art Research Library, founded in 1920 by Helen Clay Frick.
