About

The museum’s programme focuses on documenting and preserving the visual history of Morocco through both historical archives and contemporary photographic practices. It aims to showcase the diverse perspectives of Moroccan landscapes and society as captured by anonymous and renowned photographers from the 1860s onward, while actively supporting current artistic production through curated exhibitions and its own publishing house.

The Maison de la Photographie de Marrakech opened in 2009 in the Medina of Marrakech and operates as a dedicated photography museum and archive. Its permanent collection features historical photographic treasures from Morocco dating from the late 19th to mid-20th centuries, including albumen prints, glass plates, and autochromes. The institution regularly hosts contemporary and historical exhibitions, maintains a research archive, and runs an on-site publishing and print workshop. It offers daily public access and provides combined admission with the adjacent Musée de la Musique de Marrakech.
