About
The institution operates with a mission to fill gaps in state-supported contemporary art infrastructure by fostering the development of the field through public access and education. Its programme emphasizes multidisciplinary engagement, supporting young artists via production centers, workshops, and residencies while maintaining a diverse collection that bridges conceptual and formal variations in modern and contemporary art.
Founded in 2001 by collectors Sevda and Can Elgiz, the Elgiz Museum of Contemporary Art is Turkey's first private contemporary art museum, located in Beybi Giz Plaza, Maslak, Istanbul. Operating across a 2,000 m² space, it houses an eclectic collection spanning from the 1980s to the present, featuring both Turkish and international artists. The museum offers free entry and features permanent displays alongside rotating temporary exhibitions, including its renowned annual Teras Sergileri (Terrace Exhibitions) focused on sculpture.
