The hands that made a culture

A house exploring Emirati handicraft and its place in modern society, built around significant collections of objects made in metal, pottery, wood and textile. It is deliberately hands-on: visitors can try embroidery, work a loom, or learn talli — the intricate traditional braiding used to adorn women's clothing, inscribed on UNESCO's list of intangible cultural heritage in 2022. The house runs madkhan-making workshops (the clay incense burner) among others, and is closely tied to the adjacent Turath Centre for Traditional Handicrafts, the museum's dedicated educational arm for talli, khoos weaving and burqa sewing.
