Artist’s Room: Bani Abidi
Trembling hands (2024) — portraits of those who spoke out
Bani Abidi’s Artist’s Room presents a single series, Trembling hands (2024): drawn portraits of artists, journalists, politicians, lawyers, doctors and civic leaders who publicly spoke out against the killing of Palestinians in Gaza in late 2023 and early 2024, often at personal risk of backlash or censorship. Sketched from video interviews and first-hand accounts, the drawings layer several frames into one image — sometimes showing only hands holding a page — so that the shaking, stuttering figures convey the tension of public acts of courage.
