About this district
Northwest of Ankara, about a hundred kilometres out, Beypazarı is a historic Ottoman town built across steep slopes and valleys — a day-trip in the northwestern direction, and one of the prettiest. Its white, timber-framed Ottoman houses, two and three storeys high, climb the hillsides above a working bazaar of cobbled lanes; it sits on the UNESCO tentative list, a candidate for full World Heritage status. The pleasure here is a whole living town rather than a single monument: houses, market, crafts and cuisine, wrapped in a picturesque rocky landscape.
