Zoe Longfield

Biography

Zoe Longfield (1924–2013) was an American painter and one of the first-generation Abstract Expressionists of the San Francisco Bay Area. She studied at the California School of Fine Arts under Richard Diebenkorn, David Park, and Clyfford Still, and in the late 1940s and early 1950s produced a compact but remarkably original body of paintings, prints, and drawings marked by fluid, wholly abstract forms in muted grays, pinks, and purples. Largely overlooked during her lifetime, her work has been reassessed since her death; Van Doren Waxter represents her estate.
