Biography
Lucien Gautrait (1865–1937) was a French jeweller and one of the leading exponents of Art Nouveau jewellery in Paris around 1900. Working with gold, enamel, pearls and precious stones, he was celebrated for brooches and pendants inspired by insects, flowers and female figures, often employing the delicate plique-à-jour enamelling technique. His Art Nouveau Pearl European Hornet Brooch (c. 1900), from the National Collection of Qatar, is shown in Around the World in Jewellery at M7, Doha.
