Biography

Alex Da Corte (b. 1980, Camden, New Jersey) is a Venezuelan American artist who lives and works in Philadelphia. Working across painting, sculpture, installation, performance, and video, he layers references from popular culture and art history, making familiar icons strange through acts of theatrical transformation. His work has been the subject of surveys at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa, and the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, and has been featured in the Whitney Biennial, the Venice Biennale, the Carnegie International, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Roof Garden Commission. He was the 2023 Philip Guston Rome Prize Fellow at the American Academy in Rome.
